For the fellas (ladies can add input also)?

How is it that guys will strongly pursue you then not contact you for several weeks and after some time contact you again to start things up again?! Do they lose interest then become interested again? I know it can be an ortment of reasons but there must be some underlining (possibly universal reason) Confused over here...
