Why is it creationists have this idea that if evolution were proven wrong?

that the scientific community would embrace creationism no questions asked, when creationism has already failed to explain the evidence we have currently much less anything that would cause the theory of evolution to be proven wrong? why would we just supplant genuine scientific thought and logic with religion under the guise of intelligent design?
